I'm thinking about getting a new Cannon digicam, I currently have a powershot A80 which has served me very well, but I want to do more, primarily have a longer optical zoom, and shoot decent quality digital video.

I have seen some samples of the 640x480 30fps AVI video that these cameras shoot, but the file size is so huge, and I am concerned if I dont buy a realy fast SD card it will be sluggish to write the files.

If you want to shoot alot of flash based video, how important is MPEG4 as a feature? Quality of HD vs. VGA asside, what you get in reduced file size, an compression, is it worth consideration of another brand if the Cannon meets my needs otherwise?

With respect to the comment about SD cards, I have found with my S3IS that even the cheapest cards which tend to be slower work fine. I do not think that the write speed of the camera is an issue, although I do not know the exact figures I have heard that its write speed is fairly slow compared with available cards.
