Default A60 - dark background in AUTO mode

Has anybody faced problems with A60 while shooting with well lit background? I tried some shots in AUTO mode (and flash on)- they show dark background even when it was well lit. Any tips would be welcome.

If you are using zoom on your camera when you take the bad shots, the aperature will get smaller. Plus, when you use the flash, the camera expects a good bright shot, so it closes the aperature a bit more. If you zoom for a shot more that 12-15 feet, turn off your flash. You could also try using manual mode and using a shutter speed of about 1/60 so you can still hold it still and use an aperature of 2.8 or the next number up.

Good luck!
