Default SX10IS Video Problem

I videoed an event for the first time and according to many SX10IS owners the MOV compression format is not the most popular. Sure enough, after inserting the SD card in the flatscreen slot or video recorder/player slot, the TV would not play the video. I COULD play the vid on TV by going directly from the camera A/V outlet (using the SX10IS cable) to the Panasonic video recorder/player. However, it still would not play going direct from camera to Panasonic TV. I could also download and play it on the PC using the USB cable from camera to computer. However, after downloading, the videos will not play on the computer. I get a window saying the vid may not play because of the MOV compression format. My question is what procedure do I need to go through in order to change from the MOV format so I can play the vid on the computer plus put the video from computer onto a DVD and have it play on most any player/TV like a rented movie, etc. Seems like others here with more video savvy than me must have gone through this before. Any help is greatly appreciated!
