Default Lens Advice

I was wondering if anyone had some advice on the following dilemma.

I use a D30 and with my 50mm prime lens most photos are sharp, saturated and look generally good. If, however, i take the same picture with my Canon 28-90 ef USM lens the pictures are flat, unsaturated and visible soft. Is this a common problem with this lens. i got it with the camera. I am now looking to replace it, possibly with a Canon 28-105 3.5-4.5 zoom. Is this lens of higher quality (i know the build quality for one is better!), would the factors above imporve in my images or am i destined to disappointment with all zooms but the 'L' range?!?!

I really need to sort this out. MOst people on the net concur that the 28-90 f4 is bad... anyone used the 28-105 f3.5?

Default Wrong Forum

This forum is for Canon consumer digicams, there is another forum for Canon EOS Digital SLR cameras - please use it for any and all Digital Rebel Q&A's.

http://www.dpreview.com/forums/forum.asp?forum=1031 might be a good place to ask too.
