Default Canon G7 Settings Question

I have read the manual and tried some things on my own, so there may not be a good solution to this question: For indoor pictures where there is soft lighting such as Christmas tree lights or fine dining restaurant lighting, the closest I can come to pretty photos is to use the Scene setting and choose Indoor and then take off the flash. The lighting looks pretty, but obviously the image is somewhat blurred. My question is, WITHOUT USING A TRIPOD, is there a setting that would give me good results in that kind of setting? Sorry for such a newbie question, but I have had the camera for about three years now and have never figured out this one.

Unfortunately the numerically high ISO capability of the Canon G-7 is somewhat limited. And doing this without a tripod is very dicey.

In contrast, the new G-11 camera has an excellent high ISO capability and produces very good image quality.
