Default Focus issues on S2 IS

I have a canon S2 IS bought in 2005. Used to take great pictures until 2 months ago. Not sure what happened (I might have pressed a wrong button) but some of the pictures I now take are not as sharp. Real close-up shots (with in 3ft) are good but zoom out shots are out of focus. Played with MF button and also few option from the menu but no use. Local canon store couldn't help. Before I take the step for a new camera, would like to know if there is something I can do to fix the issue. Any help is greatly appreciated.
