Default Canon A570IS LCd Issues

I've had my 570is for at least 2 years now and it's been fairly reliable and takes good shots. But lately (last few mo.) the LCD has been acting up. I normally don't use the lcd screen because it eats batteries but I finally plugged the Energizer advanced lithium batteries in and they have been phenomenal.

But whats been happening is I'll take a shot or two and the lcd fades out to black and any shot I take afterward is black. This occurs whether I have flash enabled or not. I never noticed this when I first got the camera. It hasn't been dropped or been damaged in any way (to my knowledge). I have to push the lcd button to get it to turn back on. Is this typical?
