Default Travel Camera Canon SX20 IS.

I will be doing some international travelling later this year and have been researching a good all purpose camera to take along. I am an intermediate skilled photographer, and like this model for the versatility of general, zoom and macro shots, with little need to print large shots, so hoping most of the concerns are not an issue for my use.

Overall I believe I like, and am about ready to purchase the Canon SX-20is, though I am a bit curious if there may be a new version coming out in the near future that hopefully will address some of the minor concerns that have been noted on the SX-20. Travel will be in October, and would like to purchase at least 1 month prior to get used to the camera before the trip.

Overall, I believe this camera will meet the needs that I am looking for, however if I know an updated model will be released soon, I would prefer to hold out for that model.

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated.

There is going be new cameras every 8 months. Photokina is in Sept. And panasonic has announce new models already. And canon and the rest will most likely follow suite. But if you like the sx20, and can not wait. It still will be a good camera when they announce new models.
Super Frequent Flyer, no joke. Ex Patriot and loving it.
Canon Eos 60D, T1i/500D, Eos1, Eos 630, Olympus EPL-1, and a part time Pentax K-X shooter.

I've been considering the SX20 too, but am waiting to see what's around the corner this time of year. One new model that caught my eye is the Panasonic FZ100.

It looks good, and shots RAW, which the Canon SX20 cannot do as a native file format. It costs more ($500 vs $370), and has not been released yet. But, it may be available in time for your travels.
