Default G11 replacement...possible improvements...thoughts

Canon is pretty regular when it comes to updating their neat little G sweries camera.

Some things I've been wondering about regarding this camera.

  • Will Canon's next G series (G12 ?) have a bigger sensor then the G11 currently uses....but keep the MP's at around 10 to 12.

  • They say that intense competition leads to improvements. Although I don't follow the P+S market too much, even the top level P+S, such as the Canon G series....I wonder what possible improvements the G12 will offer....in order to keep at the top of it's game....with what seems to be a lot of activity lately in this area with other top of the line P+S'ers ?

  • Will we see a new G series...say a G12, introduced at Photokina ...which is coming up soon ?

  • Will the price remain status quo or will there be an increase or decrease ?

It may be, think canon may put HD into the next G camera.
Super Frequent Flyer, no joke. Ex Patriot and loving it.

Probably HD video may be one major improvement (besides this is a photo camera...)...
Improving the ViewFinder a little bit would be great...
And considering the camera's size, and my experience during recent weekend trips, AA batteries can be an option!

But what I miss more: better wide angle capabilities...

Anyway, I'm very happy with my G11!

Hi there, Les-

The rumor on the street is that Canon has to make a fairly substantial upgrade for the G-11 replacement. The G-11 has a huge following, and it would not make good business sense to just make an evolutionary change. So personally, I am looking for a substantial change this year.

BTW: I still shooting with the Pentax KM.
