Default Canon A80 Flash problem

Took some photo's at New Year's Eve Party and on some, but not all, white spots appeared.

Canon User Manual says that this is due to dust particles in the air and is a phenonomen of digital cameras and not a malfunction.

I have seen many flash photo's taken on Nikon 2100 and no such spots are apparent on any of them.....is this a Canon problem which they are ignoring?

Has anyone found a way to overcome this other than re-touching in Photoshop etc.
