Default Help with my new SX10-IS

This camera is new to me a few days ago and I need to know if it is normal that when I pull the monitor out away from the camera body, the display flips to the next mode, just as if I had pressed the DISP button. Also, when the monitor is out, the rest of the functions, like "menu" are inoperative. One other thing is the the image does not flip to right-side-up, regardless of the "Rotate" setting. Is this normal and is there a way to correct it, or do I have a bad camera? Please! I need to know so I can return the camera if it's a lemon!
