Default SX40 is there a 'speedup' for faster shooting?

Where or how is a 'speedup' for faster shooting accomplished?
Most multiple fast shots will be at the same 'thing' at the same
focus distance.

I haven't found how. In an old Samsung camera there was a setting
which allowed a user faster shooting. Fast DRAM (I think) memory
held up to 5 photos taken very fast then they were saved to slower
FLASH memory.

Where is this kind of setting on the SX40? Or if you know the name
of the setting I can look it up in the manual.

Posting the answer will help others by speeding them along. Your answer
helps 10's even 1000's of people over time as they buy, get lost, then
read your reply to me.

PS. Thanks for CHDK. It's been really useful to shoot Interval photos just
after I bought a 'Plot' camera for animal tracking that does the same. The
SX40 is 'perfect' quality and I did 'catch' a couple of animals.

When you say "speed up" are you talking about single "shot to shot" speed..?
If so, switching of the "image review" will help greatly(so you don't see the shot you've just taken).
If you're talking about burst speed, under the scene mode there is a HQ burst which will fire off roughly 8 frames in under a second- with AF,WB and exposure settings taken off the first frame.
Standard continuous shooting will bob along at roughly 2fps- and quite a bit slower if you want AF on each frame.
A fast SD card can help a great deal also....
Aside from that- I don't think there is much else you can do to speed up the SX40hs.
