Default Question about A70 digital zoom - auto focus

I,'m new to digital photography and I've had my Powershot A70 for a couple of months. I was taking a lot of outdoor pictures yesterday and I noticed that whenever I would get to the digital zoom the AF box would appear before I'd even touched the shutter release. Is this normal? Sometimes it seems to be locked on? Can anyone give me advice? Thanks!

Advice: Dont use Digital Zoom :P

Umm as for the focus box, not sure why. When I use my optical zoom my focus box is there?

Perhaps it depends on your light metering? I'll have to look into it when I have access to my camera

This is normal: "The autofocus locks to center when using the digital zoom" ("Switching between Autofocus Modes" in the manual).
