Default Camera gurus, help me to buy a good digital camera

Thanks for stopping here at my thread and spending your time. Im a new to digital camera arena and even to photography to be precise. Im planning to buy a digital camera. I looked at so many models and finally decided to go for either Canon A80 or Canon PowerShot S1 IS.

I have some questions which if i get the answers from you will help me to go out for the best one.

1) I will be mainly printing on the normal post card size photos and rarely on A4 sheets. If this is the case do i need Canon A80 which has 4MP or S1 IS which has 3.2 MP?
2) S1 IS has 10x optical zoom, which means how long can the object be far apart from the camera? A80 has only 3x optical zoom? Which is better whether 10X or 3x and what is the equivalent lens configuration for 35 mm camera?
3) Canon SI IS has 3.2x Digital Zoom where as A80 has 3.6x Digital Zoom. Which is better 3.2 X or 3.6 X?
4) Can we add extra lens to the Canon S1 IS or A80?

If you could kindly spare your time and provide me inputs on my questions i can buy a camera which will be best.

Thanks in advance for your comments.
