Default New Camera Purchase

I need a digital camera that will do well indoors and out. I do back packing so weight and bulk are not good. Would like 10-12x optical zoom but that may entail IS and that limits the available options. Right now I'm thinking that the Canon A1 IS or Panasonic FX10 come closest to what I desire. Also in the running is the Pentax 555. Because at least 50% of the pics will be indoors do I need AF assists? Appreciate your help.

Don't You mean Powershot s1 IS and Panasonic DMC-FZ10? The DMC-FZ10 is very bulky because of the huge lens and the s1 IS is missing a hotshoe for an external flash (indoors). Most large zoom digicams are very big. So I think the Pentax Optio is a good choice.
AF assists does make a difference indoors.
You could also concider to buy a small Canon Powershot A75/A80 and buy a lensadapter plus teleconverter. Just an idea.
