I'm getting ready to purchase either the 410 or 500. Both of these seem to meet all of my needs with the differences between the 2 of them slight. I've done a lot of reading and so far, I'm under the impression that the 410 may actually be better than the 500.

There's the issue of the noticeable noise at certain ISO's - but to be honest, I don't fully understand the implications of this (although I've seen the noise in sample photos and it is noticeable). It's also slower. The 500 also seems to have too high of a contrast in certain lighting situations. The 500 has the 640 movie mode - but only limited to 30 seconds and 10 fps, so it's not even THAT much better. Finally, after comparing many sample photos I've seen online, the 410 colors and quality in general just seems to be better.

The money isn't really an issue for me. It's only about a $60-$80 difference between the two and I'm willing to spend the extra for the better product. Can anyone convince me that I'm wrong? Is it really possible that the 410 may just take better photos?

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

I'm in the same boat as you are... i'm about a trigger away from purchasing either camera online. Money is really no issue between the 2, but if the s410 is better... then more power to it. I'm just hoping that an actual owner or reviewer can post some insite on this.

Go for the S410. It's cheaper and you won't miss that extra megapixel.

In fact, if you can find the S400 at an even cheaper price, go for it.
