I am ready to buy my first digicam and think I have narrowed it down to S1 IS or the Fuji S5000. I want the 10X optical zoom and I think that image stabilization is a big plus for the Canon. But, the Fuji has the Assist Light which some have dinged the Canon for not including. Of these two which do you think has better picture quality? Is the lack of the Assist Light a good trade off for image stabilization? I take pics on vacations (landscapes, city scapes), family and everyday life pics both indoors and outside. Thanks for your help.

Canon S1 IS has a better control and much better image quality. I know many people around me who bought and sold their S5000 within 1 month. I admit that the S1 IS is not superb in image quality, yet it should still beat the S5000 quite a bit. Choose S5000 only if you really like the color saturation and tone of Fuji.
