i took my sd300 out of the case yesterday and when i turned it on the lcd was black!
so all i know is it was pretty cold the night before, but the camera was only used for a couple shots outside. otherwise the outer screen is not damaged and the camera was not dropped or abused. there is a crack all the way across the inner lcdscreen.if the screen is that touchy to weather this may not be a very good camera after all... any thoughts? chris |

Sorry to hear about that. Was the camera left in freezing conditions for a long time or something?

i was also wondering if i should return it to dell or send to canon for service. dell would most likely just send me a new one and canon will try to fix or send a refurb model. since i have only had it for a couple weeks i should be able to return to dell if i want.

so i have heard back from canon and dell.
canon wants me to send it to them (i pay shipping) and i should get it back in about 2 weeks either repaired or replaced with a refurb camera. dell will ship me a new camera asap and i return the defective camera with the provided return ship label after my new camera arives. obviously i am going to return to dell! one more reason to buy from a good company instead of the cheapie internet sites. thanks, chris |

how did you get dell to replace it? This just happened to me yesterday and my camera is only 30 days old
. Canon sells replacement lcds for $55 but I have no idea how to go about replacing it.

i just emailed them and asked what my options were and i had my new camera the next day. i had my camera less then 2 weeks though and i think the cutoff is 21 days... would not hurt to ask anyway.
canon should replace it under warrenty unless the camera was abused. in my situation there wasn't even a scratch on the outer screen and i still don't know how it broke. chris |

I e-mailed both without any luck, canon said they would be able to replace it but most likely the warranty won't cover it. It looks like I'm just gonna have to suck it up and get a new one. I know canon sells the replacement LCDs for around $60 but I have no idea about how to change it.

i guess canon really didn't say if it was covered or not. they just told me to ship it to them. i assumed it was a warrenty deal though.
there is a guy on another forum who has his sd200 apart trying to replace the screen. maybe you could contact him to see if he got it back together. http://photography-on-the.net/forum/...ad.php?t=49261 his post is at the bottom of the thread. chris |
