Default Cp4500 vs. G2 or G3

I currently own a CP4500 and really like it except the LCD screen has gotten pretty scratched even with use of a case and a lot of care. I use it a lot for macro work...shooting jewelry as well as scenic shots. Because of the wear on the LCD, I am looking at the G2 or G3 which I understand are both great. The have a protective cover for the LCD. I Have heard though that macro isn't as good and that it has a plastic body vs the mag alloy of the 4500. Any thougts would be appreciated!
