Howdy Folks!

I'm a newbie here so please be gentle!

My daughter has a several-years-old Canon PS A75. It is not working properly. When she turns it on, the lens extends but the CCD doesn't always illuminate. Usually it is unlit. Sometimes it displays E18 which I think is a diagnostic error code, but she doesn't have a manual (or can't find it). I think she bought the unit from a college pal and didn't get the book.

The failure is pretty consistent in not illuminating the screen. The lens always extends and E18 sometimes displays. It always beeps and sometimes powers itself down automatically. She's tried new batteries including new, freshly charged rechargables.

Where can I look for more information? If a new CCD is needed, can this be handled by a local repair shop (Dallas/Austin/Houston) or does it have to be shipped to a factory depot? She is soon to depart on a relocation road trip with her best friend thru the Southwest and up the West coast to Seattle; so we'd like to get it repaired quickly if at all possible.
