My Canon A70 drains battery exceptionally fast. I've been
using NiMH powerex 2200mAH since I've owned it. I noticed that it was
going through the batteries very fast, so I placed some alkaline AA's in
it to see if the batteries were going bad. These batteries came with the purchase of a new Canon
A95 and were not used prior to being put in the A70.
Roughly 10(10-20) pictures have been taken since I placed these Alkaline
batteries in the A70. This was at most 12 days ago. The camera now
dies after I take a picture, mentioning that the battery pack needs to be
changed. I tried these batteries in my Canon A95 and it did the same
thing, so I believe the batteries are close to dead now.
The camera is roughly 2 and half years old and has taken 3700 pictures.

Might be the CF card that you're using. A mate of mine had a similar issue with one of the Fuji cameras he owns - be bought an extra memory card, and it seemed to drain the batteries even when the camera was off.

Only took about 20 pics before the batteries died. After trying various combinations of batteries, he tried using an older card he'd brought with him, and the battery usage returned to normal.

Worth checking with another memory card - they're as cheap as the batteries these days!
