i got a Canon S2 IS and i have been thinking since it has a USB port that is use to transfer files to the computer, can we use that usb port to connect directly to a External USB hard drive itself and transfer files to it or even better connect a external hard drive to the usb port and use it as a SD card??

As far as I am aware this cannot be done; if you notice the port on the camera is quite different from the port on the computer; the external hard drive needs an operating system to run it and can only be read and written to by a computer; if you want to control an external hard drive, you must have what is called "usb host" capablity which as far as I am aware the S2 does not have
