I'm researching to buy a camera. What is essentially the difference between these two models besides LCD screen size? Also, do both record sound with the movie modes in MPEG-4 format? And is the length of the movie limited only by SD card size or is it only capable of clips? And lastly, do they have TV output so you can see your pictures/movies on screen?

SD500 records to .AVI files.

Depending on resolution, clips are 1 minute, 3 minutes, or up to 1 Gig.

You can download the manuals from the CanonUSA web site.

As far as I have heard, the only difference between 500 and 550is bigger and stronger LCD, and a fix of the whine soundsometimes heard in movie mode.
