Hi all..

Having recently purchased the Canon A610 I am absolutely delighted with it. It is a super camera, loads of functions but still simple to use.

However, the last time I went to use it one half of the lens cover failed to retract fully. I powered on/off and removed/refitted the batteries to no avail. I must admit that I was quite stuck so I pushed back the cover with my finger nail to use the camera.

Now the half of the lens cover is stuck opened...

Any suggestions or should I return for warranty??

I still think this is a fabulous camera...

Its a no-brainer - return to the retailer or to Canon under warranty.

PS. Yes its a terrific camera!

I would take it back and ask for an exchange, if you can. Having it fix will resolve the problem now but it may very well happen again in a few months after the warranty has expired. Nothing like a fresh replacement.

I was in radio shack today and they had an A510 I was looking at. It had that same problem, I had to open it with my finger.

Those little things covering the lens are quite delicate. I have an A610 and avoid touching them as much as I can. I have noticed several display A610s and 620s in stores with half of the lens cover stuck open. My guess is that too many fingers poking at them while on display will damage them eventually. This is a part Canon might improve in future models.
