Anyadvice on how the Canon S2 IS/ S3 IS performs in lower light conditions?

I am trying to decide between Canon or the FujiS5200 /5600

I have seen some excellent images of birds with both cameras but not sure howthey would perform in lower light at 380mm or over 500mm (with tele converter). Would IS (as in the canon) be better, bringing the shutter speed down and avoiding high ISO and noise? The fuji has less noise at 400 and 800 ISO

I will be taking photoes of otters. at late dawn, early dusk and in the shade.

I am prepared to use a tripod

Any advice welcome!

cheers julian
