Default Canon G3 vs. S50

Anyone seen/done a comparison? I realize the G3 has more features and expandability, but is their also a quality difference?

I've had a number of years experience with 35mm (1969 Nikkormat, bought new), but haven't taken many pics the last several years. I'm about to get back into it, and am considering my first digicam purchase (not counting a VGA cheapie). I went to a demo that featured Canon SLR digicams, and I'm 'on the hook', but obviouly don't have a collection of Canon lenses, nor the interest/justification for spending thousands.

Thanks! Steve

i've played with both and bought the g3
the s50 isn't really that much smaller or lighter and the 140mm lens times 4 meg ccd is pretty much the same as 110mm lens times the 5 meg ccd
plus the g3 is f2.0 to 3.0
s50 f2.8 to 4.5

no contest plus you could put a kenko 2 x on the g3 and the battery life on the g3 is much better
hope that helps
good luck
