I tried to download the firmware update for my ex z40 at casio.com. The closest match is the ex z4u. Are these one and the same camera. Reason I ask is that the firmware, even though extracted in the correct location, will not update. I press menu and start at the same time and get the message version 1.0 but no update process starts. the firware download was for the z4u, there was none listed for the z40

any info would be appreciated. The camera has bouts of the blue tint on outdoor shots, very easily corrected in photoshop but I would prefer the firmware update

No these are similar but different cameras. Check out the reviews to find the specific differences.

EX-Z4(u) http://www.steves-digicams.com/2003_reviews/ex-z4.html

And your EX-Z40 http://www.steves-digicams.com/2004_reviews/ex-z40.html

This is a quote from the EX-Z4 review explaining the "u".

"(Right up front we need to mention that there are TWO different EX-Z4 cameras being sold. The EX-Z4 outside of N. America and the EX-Z4U which is what we have reviewed and is sold in the U.S. They are identical except that the Z4U does NOT have a movie mode.)"
