Default Dragonflies

There were two dragonflies in my garden, and they stayed still for several minutes. This must be my lucky day!

You can see all pictures at http://arjo.fotopic.net/show_collection.php?id=45346

As always, comments and suggestions are welcome!

Default Dragonfly

Well I'm not completely sure dragonfly is the correct (english) word for it. The other one looks much more like the one Angelo posted:

So maybe the first one in this thread is called differenly. But in Dutch I would both call them "Libelle", but I'm not even sure if that is correct.

The pictures were taken in my backyard in the Netherlands.

The first one is a Damsel. They're related to the dragonflies

Default Damsel fly

Gimli, you are right, I found out it's called a Damsel fly, not to be confused with a Damsel bug, which is a totally different insect. For all dutch people here the dutch names are "Waterjuffer" for the first and "Libel" for the second.

An excellent site I found about garden animals and insects is http://www.gardensafari.net/ it's both in dutch and english and contains lots of pictures.

From what I know now, it's actually more like a french "Waterjuffer", or Damsel Fly.

Nice pictures! But I would crop them a little, escpecially the first.

That website has some great "metamorphoses"! Unfortunately my french is not good enough to understand everything on the site!
