I would like to know what setting such as A, P, S or M you guys are using on the D300. I have tried them all but I seem to always have to focus manually. My D70 focuses itself and seems to get a much sharper moon. I have been up all night trying to get a really sharp moon but I am no happy.

Hey nice goin' Caryl! Great picture.
When shooting the moon I always use M (manuel) so that i can control both aperture and shutter speed. For most other types of photography I am lazy and use P mode and let the camera do the work. I always check the LCD after a shot to see if I need to make any adjustments though.

Rtull37, Just keep shooting and your will find the groove. Post 'em when you get 'em. I am curious to see what you can do with this awesome camera. Did I read you last post correctly? You also have the Tamron 200-500mm Tele? For the money it has been a very good lens for me.

Good luck to you both,
Steve

Caryl, the sefl timer is on the outer ring of the WB, QUAL, ISO dial. I have included a picture. You set the length of time from within the Custom settings menu: c Timers /AE lock. Also see page 280 in your manuel. Good luck.

Thank you Steve. I ordered a cord release and should have it any day now. I think that will help.

Yes, the cable release is a very useful tool. I am going to order one as well.
