Both are very nice, but I really like your first one - what kind of a plant is it?

Welcome to the forums, and to close-up photography. You have a great little camera for closeups (I have one too) - that Leica lens is one of the best going and the camera is highly rated because of it, but there are some tradeoffs: the camera does have its downsides. It tends to blow highlights in bright sun, but they are well controlled in your first photo, which is superb. It also has problems with digital noise, usually at higher ISOs, which can be accentuated with oversharpening in postprocessing, as in your second one - you could improve the depth of field (and therefore sharpness) if you backed off some and zoomed in. If you look in the Panasonic Forum in the point and shoot category you will see some really fine photographs taken with it, so these difficulties can be mastered.

You are off to a good start - It is a good hobby, so let us see more of your work.
