Good that you posted a photo, a great way to start!

It looks like the software you used to edit/resize has added a lot of noise/grain which is a shame.

Try lots, of things, think outside of the box, go for different angles, frame differently etc etc. Oh, most importantly, have fun :-)

In that case it is probably that the light is low so the camera increased the ISO (how sensitive it is to light). When it does this things get noisy/grainy. There is software out there that will help this such as noiseware and noise ninja (I use the former), but if you can control the ISO you can help this out..... personally I wouldn't worry too much about this for now but it is something to play with in the future.

Be sure to go through Steve's review of your camera:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2008_...i_s1000fd.html

Steve's reviews actually function as mini tutorials to help people understand their new cameras. I looked at this one - it is quite detailed, and should be of some help.

Welcome to the forums - we look forward to seeing more of your pictures.
