Default Red Dragonfly

I just happened to look out on the patio and saw this Dragonfly land on this Agapanthus bud. Taken with a Nikon D300 and Tamron 200-500mm lens @500mm hand held.

#2 The reason the back ground is so dark is because I was shooting towards a very shady part of the yard as the backdrop.

Thanks, I noticed the smile too. My wife says it looks like Jiminy Cricket.
Dragonflies first appeared about 300 million years ago in the Carboniferous Period along with other winged insects. It helps being a science teacher when these questions come up.

Cheers

Holy cow what a shot! I first thought you were trying for a overprocessed HDR shot... but I guess with the sun coming from the right angle this is just mother nature at it's best.

Beautiful!

Thanks Mandy.

If the conditions are right a nice 500mm tele can be a pretty good macro lens... until you have to hand hold it for any length of time

Beautiful!

The sun was full and coming from almost straight over head and behind him a little. It did make for an interesting effect.

Thanks for the compliment, Steve
