Default Intriguing Gum ball

Hi there

This evening (Sun 11 July, Australia) I went for a walk in a nearby 'bush area' - a few minutes drive from my home. I had not been there before.

During my walk I came across a type of flower / growth (it was around a twig, end of a small branch) on a eucalyptus tree (gum tree) - about 50 cm off the ground. I've not seen such a flower (or whatever it is before).

I thought of it as a 'gum ball' - as it is very spherical in shape - and the colour and details were very interesting for me. I saw a few other 'buds' near joins in the twigs which I expect might open into more of these later (it's mid winter here, but winters here are very mild- and spring starts early).

If anyone knows what it is- I'll be very interested to hear more.

Paul

Nice color. I wish the center was more in focus since that is where they eye is "directed" to in your composition. Otherwise, it is a wierd looking flower but I am intrigued by it.

Hi Jeephotog

Thanks for looking and your comments.

Yes, as it is so 3-D in shape, I found it hard to guess where best to put the in focus part. I found this one more pleasing than ones that I had the centre (of the 'ball') in focus (because the outer parts have more contrast I found).

But you make me think - next time, to try other possibilities. Cheers

Hello MartinSykes

Ah... you're a faster googler than I. I guess I could have tried.

And now you highlighted it was not a gum... but a Hakea!!

Thanks for the information / correction.
