looks like either a spicebush swallowtail caterpillar or a tiger swallowtail caterpillar. I lean towards the tiger swallowtail

Spicebush Swallowtails don't occur that far West - It is most likely either a Western Tiger Swallowtail or a Two-Tailed Swallowtail.

Thank you both for your input. Did a little research and I think it is a Two-Tailed Swallowtail caterpillar. I didn't have a clue.

Thanx Penolta!! After looking further, it definitely is a atwo-tailed swallowtail. For some reason I didn't notice the "Taken at Zion National Park, Utah" statement. Must have nodded off at that point.

jj, that's a really cute (yes, cute) caterpillar! Like a small piece of coral. How big was it? As a little kid, I used to collect caterpillars. Drove my mom crazy.

If I remember he was about 3 inches long. I think I ran across this guy after we got down from hiking up to Angels Landing in Zion National.
