I like the first one the best. The only thing it needs is a familiar object such as a coin to give it scale. The colors, sharpness and lighting are great.

The second image doesn't do much for me. Again a familiar object to give scale would be helpful but that is not the real problem. Composition and lighting are problems here. Half the frame is background concrete or tiles and is very uninteresting. The lighting on the thistle (or whatever it is!) is too harsh. You need to use something to diffuse the light so that the hightlights don't wash out. I am not sure if the color is off or not. You might want to do a white balance calibration with a white sheet of paper and shoot it again.

i agree with you in both cases, i prefer the first pic myself too,
in the second one i think i ve overdone it in photoshop a bit, i wanted to highlight the transparency of the thorns on the thistle and they ended up being blown out and losing detail from one side.....

Even with the blown out highlights, I really like the second pic. It just caught my attention much more than the first one.

hmm...you might be able to fix the highlights in photoshop......with levels......i can try if you don't mind.....
i like the rocks picture too! i have one very similar...but it has a little plant in the middle....

Yes feel free to try, i ve tried with no success, i think all information is lost in these highlights..

is that the same picture? that is better....still a little blown out.....but not bad.....here is my try at trying to help the other one.....
