A Banksia flower from my backyard. When the flower dies they turn a very grey brown colour and almost look like a scrubbing brush. The seeds only germinate after a bush fire.

Wow what a strange looking flower. Good depth through out. Let me get this straight, unless someone or something lights this bush on fire it won't seed? The giant Sequoias in Calif. are that way.

Thats right, for most of the Banksias the fire causes the dead flower heads to pop out their seeds once it has been burnt.
The native birds love the flowers as they hold a lot of nectar.
