I'm new to digital photography...well photograpy in any form actually...I could really use some contstructive criticism. Thanks :-) The attached image is straight out of my camera except for re-sizing. I use an Olympus c-740.

Hi there;

If these are among your first shots, I can't wait to see more. Both shots are nicely done. The mantis shot would probably be better without the out-of-foucus obstrustions in the front, but other than that,it's very nice. The Butterfly against the dark background is very well done indeed.

Keep it up.

Regards,

Tom, on Point Pelee, Canada

i agree with tom...can't wait to see more

the basics of those two photos are very nice...good focus, dof,

one thing you have to remember to watch in wildlife/macro photography, is the background...it's just my personal preference, but the background in the first one is a bit "man-made" looking...lol....

the second one, the background is perfect....nice solid black, no distractions from the subject, one thing....the flash is a bit harsh...if you can, i'd check your manual (or if you already know how to do this) look for your flash compensation...and tone it down to about -1/3 stop... (on setting darker)

if it underexposes it, just go back to normal, but it should make it a little less "harsh" looking...if that makes any sense...

well, Welcome to Stevesforums!!!

can't wait to see more photos from you!

stick around, you'll learn a lot (i'm a living advertisement )

Very nice Praying Mantis. The out of focus background makes it stand out so much more. Thanks.

The butterfly is definately kick- butt. I agree with Vito on stopping your flash down a bit. Welcome and keep posting.
