Default Close focus with CP4500

I've been trying to take some close-up shots with my CP4500, but the closest focus I seem to be able to get is about 3-4 inches. I understand from the camera documentation that the camera should focus down to 0.8" from the lens.

I've tried auto-focus and manual focus. The auto-focus usually ends up focusing on any objects it can find behind the subject. The manual focus indicator turns red about after focusing about two thirds of the way to the macro symbol and doesn't get me any closer focus.

Can anyone advise ?

Make sure that you are in macro mode, with the little flower displayed on the LCD.

To get the closest focus, increase the camera's zoom until the flower turns yellow - this is some sort of "sweet spot" for the macro mode. The camera should be able to focus on an object that is quite close to the lens.

Thank-you Euglena ! I had the Macro symbol but I'd never tried adjusting the zoom until the flower turned yellow. Now it's working fine.
