Well. No ribbon, no top10, but I'm gonna post it anyway.

This was my submission for the dpchallenge last week.
Today I got the result and it is 349th out of 529 photos.

Not that bad at all. What do you think about the photo?

It is a potentially good shot with some work. The lighting is very poor as is the depth of field. I would recommend using a softbox to get even lighting all around the ring. You could also use some umbrella lights. As an alternative, on a sunny day, take your setup outside and have someone hold a white sheet about two feet above the ring to diffuse the sunlight.

Use the smallest aperture setting (largest f-stop number) available. Since this will result in a slow shutter speed, you will need a tripod.

Clean and polish the ring. If the far side has less scratching than the near side, turn the ring around.

I am sure others will have more suggestions. I wish you well.

I actually like the lighting, the warm works for me. I agree with Calr about the DOF in that at least the last diamond in focus would look nice but like the blur on the band. Wow your camera really gets detail, I see the scratches. Interesting shot.

Any new Corgi pictures?

thanks for your critique!
They are really helpful to improve shots.
I didn't think of polishing the ring and taking the photo in aperature priority either.
The light could've been better and I guess all these things come together.

But I'm still kinda limited by my cam (Canon A60). But I'm looking forward to get my first dSLR next january.

Thanks also for your comment, ImKayd1!

New corgi pics? Nope. unfortunately not, but I'm gonna take some shots of our lil' puppy for you soon!
