Default Baltimore checkerspot

What a butterfly:

Taken in a place someone in my butterfly club told me about. Am I a butterfly fanatic? I drove 40 minutes to see a butterfly. You can't just see them anywhere, though- they form little local colonies, and you only see them in that spot. Got some caterpillar pictures of these as well.

Wow! What a beautiful butterfly and the picture is outstanding. This was well worth the 40 mile drive.

Wow, thats a cool butterfly. I realy like the marks, and the DOF is great.

Fanatic? butterfly club....no 40 miles maybe. But I've driven 60 miles for a slice of pie.....midnight and wintertime, my wife and I wanted a slice. Thats nuts...Ok I'm rambeling on ( maybe I'm nuts ):P

Thanks, everybody!

I couldn't believe how beautiful it was. I held my breath about how it came out, too. I had flash compensation set to zero by mistake- but the camera did the right thing with the exposure anyway. I had a lot of minus exp comp dialed in.

Sarah, I used the 300/4 IS + 1.4 TX + 12mm extension, shot from about three feet away.
