Regarding the new POTD site. Need some rules for uploading (cropping). Or, an explanation?
I spent a good hour in Photoshop preparing, cropping and sizing a jpeg photo 750h x 519v pixels only to find that when I upload it I must crop it again but my image is already cropped the way I want it and it won't allow my horizontal composition. Very frustrating. What gives? Update: I tried resizing to 500 x 346 pixels but I get the same forced/mandatory crop option. Basically a square portion of my image. Welcome to the forums.
The crop box you see is designed to let you see how the photo will be displayed on the main page at http://www.steves-digicams.com (not the way it will look on the POTD page). IOW, it's designed to let you select the portion that is displayed in the smaller box allocated for it on the main page (which may be smaller, and at a different ratio of width to height than desired for some images). But, if you look at that page and click on the current POTD, you can see the entire image (versus what's being displayed in the smaller box on the main page that links to it, which is what the crop box is designed to let you select). In other words, it's not actually cropping the image that someone can see when looking at our POTD page. It's just allowing you to select a portion of it for display on our main page (since the space allocated for it there is limited in size). |

Thanks for the explanation. I obviously missed the whole point of the crop.
I think I had uploaded my image by mistake with a blank part of it cropped. Not sure the upload happened (I had pressed enter)? Did not receive email confirmation? Now that I understand, should I upload with a proper crop? Thanks for your patience, Bruce |
