Default ATS-80 HD - WOW!

I've used the AT-80 HD before, but not in about a year.

I swung by a store tonight while shopping for dinner and got a look at the new ATS-80 HD. I was shocked. I knew they had made it smaller, but I was shocked. At least from memory, it really is smaller... much smaller. And it seems lighter than I remember too.

The other thing I found interesting was how badly the non-HD scope showed blooming (I think that is the term. Purple fringes found white and/or backlit objects.) Even in the store, a hanging price tag on a moose showed a slight purple hilight on its right edge but the HD version did not. I didn't try the HD version outside (only the non-HD... dumb of me, they offered when they found the HD version) and I was able to make the entire leaf of a tree purple instead of green because it was backlit by the sun.

So HD really matters! It is worth the price. I'd only ever used an AT-80 HD before, and clearly I didn't know how good I had it.

How I just have to decide if I want to buy it! Sigh.
