I'm looking to couple my Sony F828 to a mid-priced scope for bird photography. Typical equivalent focal length on a 35mm format lens would be around 1000mm or more. Only other requirement is a reasonable close focus capability, say under 20 feet. Can anyone offer me some advice on what the pitfalls are? or offer some ideas on what scope/adaptors to buy? should I be looking for a prime lens or a reflector system?

Thanks for getting this far :-)

Kev
