Swimming in digiscoping equipmentpossibilities. But attracted to possibly combining aCelestron Ultima 100ED (refractor 100 mm coated lense) with my Sony F717 using a Scoptronix MaxView 40 or possibly an EagleEye Digimount Adapter.

Celestron because its big, inexpensive, reputable manufacturer. But have no details. Appears to be 1.25" eyepiece only, but would love to step up to 2". Can't find any user's opinions.

Sony F717 because I love it, internal zoom, and actual lense diameter is smaller than barrel size would lead you to believe.

Any advice? User experience? Any and all deeply appreciated.

i dont understand why that article would be relevant. the celestron ultima 100 is not a Catadioptric scope, its simply a refractor. one which would not be too suitable for digiscoping. however since you seem to have chosen the ed model the chromatic aberrations will be minimised.

i personally did think about the celestron ultima 100 (not the ed model) for digiscoping a while back as i were on a tight budget but as soon as i told the guy what it were for he refused to sell it to me simply because it wouldnt be suitable. the ed model was suggested but was out of my price range. so i ended up with a cheap catadioptric scope (celestron c90 mak)

Hi!

Did you buy the Celestron Ultima 100ED and what are your experiences? In:

this scope is said to suffer from coma in astronomical use, is that true?

considering the same setup with a celestron 100mmED spotting scope. but will be using a video camera. have you found the 100mmED works? im considering a similar setup for under 2 miles to ID individuals. considering the 90C Mak as well as a 102mm wide view refractor. any others with advise, please let me know what you think. dont want to spend over 700. thx to all who respond, new to high end optics. thx
