some ads for scopes state green or blue coatings on the lenses, which are supposed to give clearer vision, do these coloured coatings spoil the clarity of images when digiscoping by adding a colour cast?

confused? you bet!

thanks,

pete

Hi Pete,

In general they won't spoil the "clarity" but will adversely affect the color balance. You might be able to compensate for the cast in PhotoShop, but if you have the opportunity to choose one without the coating it would likely make a better digiscoping prospect.

I have some Eastern European binoculars which have incredible glass (from the old Carl Zeiss Jenner stock) but have a greenish tint. I've sometimes taken images through them and attempted to correct for the tint but with only limited success. The tint does help with clarity, especially on overcast or foggy days and while great for enhancing sharpness, is detrimental to photography.

Best regards.

Thanks Lin, got to go for the clear glass then, I can spoil photo's without help from lens coatings.

thanks again,

pete
