Is a spotting scope just a smaller telescope? I am looking for something to

attach my Nikon 8800 to and take some pictures. Any input to help me out

would be great. I think this stuff can be addicting. rob

Yes, it is addicting. I had to give up drugs to afford the habit....

Digiscoping is the art of attaching a telescope to your digital camera. And yes a spotting scope can be considered a portable telescope, although the defintion is quite flexible. After all, what is portable to one person is not portable to another.
