Default Alternate realities

Today I was at the beach. Looking up I saw this young man on the pier leaning on the railing holding a Starbucks cup. He was looking down at the ocean where surfers were riding the waves. Was he admiring them? Was he envious? Was he a friend of one of the surfers? Was he having a positive and pleasant experience?

On the other hand he could have been thinking about something else entirely, and not even seeing what was happening below. Was he depressed? Discouraged? Recovering from a recent break-up? Isn't it interesting how we can see different things in the same scene?

The hoodie always seemed to me a way of closing one's self off from parts of the world. You caught a private moment very well. I like it.
