Default Swan Lake (IR Channel Shifted)

Hi @ll!

This is a repost ... I posted it in the old forum before.

I thought I should post it here, cause it's an IR false color schema many people seem to like. It's achived by exchanging the red and the blue channel of an IR color shot against each other.

Taken with a Canon G1 and a Hoya R72 IR filter.

Great!
This one grabs me more than the Tobacco House picture. Can you give a little more detail on the technique? Is this all IR or is there a visible image composited in as well?

thanks,

-roger

Hi Roger,

this is all done only with a single IR color shot.

First you have to shoot an IR-colorshot with a light IR-filter like the Hoya R72 ... most others are too dark for digital IR-color photography:

Visit my IR-gallery and have a look at the first images with the brown sky, that's what IR-color shot usually look like if shot with manual white balance ... this is very important ... set the white point manually:

But not many digital cams are able to take IR shots ... check the first link for further info.

O.k., now that you have your standard IR color shot, we have to do a little editing. First we have to exchange the red and the blue channel against each other ... the easiest way to do this is to use IrfanView, where you can easily change the RGB schema ... you can also do this in Photoshop (5.5 or higher) with the channel palette.

At last you do a histogram correction on each color channel separately and you're done.
