How's this try in black/whiteto"take away" the erotic from the photo and give it more of an "art look"

Thanks

I'm fond of saying that appreciation of art is subjective. It allows for a suitable explanation for wide swings of opinion, while avoiding the nasty thought that someone's insulting your taste. I am always curious to see how photographers handle the subject of nudity. I think it takes talent to present it where it's viewed as art, simply because there is so much media exposure exploiting nudity as a lurid attraction. So because you are brave enough to present this as an example of art, I applaud your effort. Seriously. I hide behind my newb status here. I admit that the posture does not suggest what I usually interpret as art...but on the flip side I don't find it offensive. The model is pleasantly proportioned, there's a nice contrast between her hair and skin tones, I find her surroundings just a bit cluttered, and distracting. I do think she's highlighted well, and the shot is clean and focused and stands out clearly. If art is what you are intersted in, and this is one way you would like to present it, then I think you have found a good place to start. Bravo...!

Kenneth did a good job with his post. Some may see it as art, some might not. Everything is subjective in art.

I still see it as erotica. If the environment was different and the pose was different, it wouldn't be as erotic to me. Looks like she just stripped(are those marks from her bra?) for the camera. And the jewelry is still on.

Just my opinion here I am not offended btw.

Thanks for your input. Highly appreciated.

It's not a serious attempt of art photography. It's just a photo I'm pleased with, and tried to changed how it looksby converting it to B/W andchanging contrast heavily.

Great post , KENNETHD !

As far as the shot is concerned hottuna, well, I think B&W hasn't removed its erotic strenght at all !

However erotism and art are not two opposite things !

Maybe you are trying to make a dinstinction between an erotic nude and an artistic nude, where the last one is something more "academic" and cold.

IMHO, in artistic nude you try to take the best out of the shapes of the human body and, in doing this , lighting takes a big role.

The following link to a previous post of LCohen is an example of what I consider artistic nude :

http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...ghlight=lcohen

In artistic nude beauty is rather "cold" , where for cold I mean it lacks of sexual attraction. Actually I cannot feel any sexual attraction for LCoehn shot !

In eroticshots of course sexual attraction plays a big role.

However making a good erotic shot is a form of art as well !

Erotism is not as easy to achieve in a shot as it could seem.

It's not enough to show a nude body to evoke erotism , and, in some cases no nudity at all is needed to make an erotic shot ! ( for instance, I consider KENNETHD's "oil painting effect" shot http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...mp;forum_id=55an extremly erotic shot ! )

As I already said, erotic shot are a form ofart as well for me !

P.S.: most of Helmut Newton's greatest erotic shots were in B&W !

A number of valid comments have been made here. Each year, at the Oregon State Fair Photography exhibit, there are usually a few nude shots. They are usually done in very good taste (tastes differ) and very artistic. My wife, on the other hand, thinks they are all pornographic.

As for this shot, I do not find it artistic or even a good photo. It appears to be a pornographic pose to me and in very bad taste. I would vote for the moderators to remove it. This is a family oriented forum with children present and participating. This photo does not belong here.

And you are entitled to your opinion. However, despite the erotic implications of the image, it does not reveal anything that other "less erotic" images have.

Of course you are correct. It is my opinion and I don't expect people to agree with me. However, I am probably not alone in this case.

Have a good day.

While I truly hesitate to comment, Cal...I am going to. I believe the entire content up to now illustrates just how subjective opinion can get when dealing with this category. If I were you I would not take Kalypso's comment as a rebuke. In fact I believe he confirms your right to an opinion. I like the idea that none of us has the exact same views, it makes for more thought provoking exchange. Like most people, however, I myself feel more flattered when people agree with me. Best regards,

The photo does not offend me in anyway, however I dont like the way she appears to have baggy skin in the lower area of the body, is there any way you can edit this out as I personally find it distracting and it's a pretty good shot for that kind of thing. I have marked in red the areas I feel need to be edited to improve on the shot. This is only my opinion and I hope it does not bother you:-)
