I am a newbie to Photoshop, but I was wondering whether it would be possible to replicate a process I used to use in the old days when I had a darkroom in the loft. Here is my first attempt.

My process was basically as follows:
1 Open image in a layer on top of a white background.
2 Invert image and convert to grayscale.
3 Using Magic Eraser and experimenting with tolerance, erase the darkest parts of the image.
4 Convert to RGB mode.
5 In Image/Adjust/Hue/Saturation check the colourize box then adjust the sliders to suit yourself.

My son's opinion was "Different!", my wife's was "Vile!!"

What do you think, folks ?

Nice effect. IMO I think I would like it better if it were a different hue, maybe dark grey or black instead of purple. Your wife obviously would have liked it better if you had left it alone!:-)
